Need Advice!

Hey guys!

I need some advice regarding my blogspot).

I am at my limit for pictures and now have to pay for additional space. Has anyone out there done this and if so what is a good amount to purchase?

Sorry I don't have a picture with this post but I can't until I pay:).

Morning Sunlight

Hello to all my blogland buddies!

I missed you bunches!!!

This will be something of a short post as Blogger won't let me publish any more pictures until I increase my pic stash or something like that. For those of you wo are familiar with my computer talents, or lack thereof, this may take a while:).

We are still unpacking so it may be a bit longer before I can visit all of you but I will be by for a visit as soon as possible!

I love you all and thank you for your wonderful comments and support as we move into Faith Cottage!

Sorry I can't get any more pictures posted right now but here are some early morning pics at Faith Cottage:).

The morning sunlight streams through the bedroom curtains.

An old Eastlake mirror reflects sunbeams as they peek through the front door windows.
Silver sparkles in the early morning sunrays.

Crystals shine like diamonds as the sun streams through lace panels.

Shadows glimmer against antique lace.

Even a small bear (this little lady was handmade by Catherine at Bumpkin Bears:) enjoys the early morning light.

But it's not just the bear enjoying it,

Kramer is determined to catch the sun rays!

Or maybe he'll just enjoy the birds singing outside the window.

Until something inside catches his attention!

Of course most cats prefer...

to nap in the sun:).

Calvin prefers to pose for pictures while...

Kasey snoozes on the floor.

Lizzy watches for any sign of movement just beyond the front door.

This flying pig picture now hangs in our media room but used to hang in the infamous bathroom (see the bathtub diaries for more on that subject).

It is a reminder from my dad (you all know him as 'Michael823' from his comments on my blog) to not take life too seriously:).

Fairy Tale-Part III

Welcome back to Faith Cottage!

Come inside for a tour:).

Although the original ornamentation and fretwork remain on the exterior, the interior has been remodeled.

The floors in the living room are Brazilian cherry (Pergo).

An archway on the other side of the room leads to the kitchen.

White cabinetry with blue/tan tile flooring and blue Corian countertops (working with the blue will be a challenge but I feel up to the task:).

The door to the left is a bathroom while the door to the right leads to the second bedroom.

The largest bedroom (master) is at the front of the house off the living room.

This is the third bedroom at the back of the house (yeah, I know, I'm going back and forth but it's a small house so you shouldn't get lost:).

This is the second bedroom (off the kitchen).

A small bathroom off the kitchen boasts a standing shower to the left.

This is the main bathroom at the back of the house.

If you've been to my Bathtub Diary blog (http://bathtubdiary.blogspot.com/) I know what you're thinking-

where's the claw foot tub?

That's another story that will be addressed at a future date:).

And finally, this is the sun porch off the kitchen.

Well there it is, Faith Cottage.

Although she might seem a bit plain now there is much beauty in her future as we begin working on bringing this Victorian cottage to her full potential.

Fairy Tale-Part II

No fairy tale is complete without delicate flowers dripping with drops of dew...

or the soft spray of lacelike buds.
A great place to capture such beauty is the garden area of a historic home.

Inspiration can be found from old homes when creating your own future historic home:).

Capturing such loveliness through photos can make one feel closer to their dreams no matter how impossible they may seem.

But sometimes God has other plans...

after all, nothing is impossible with God.

And so what began as a fairy tale becomes a walk of faith.

A welcoming garden gate leading to...

the historic touches that make a Victorian cottage special.

It's the details of old architecture...

the simple reminders of a day at the beach...

and a warm welcome home to relax.

Dreams of rocking away in a wicker rocker while breezes softy billow...

ah yes, the glorious wonderment of dreams.

But some dreams do come true...

when the hand of God is upon you.

Visions become reality.

And before you know it you hold the key to your dreams.

If you have not yet figured it out, we have been blessed by God with a dream come true.

Welcome to Faith Cottage where God's love is always in bloom.

This 1890 Victorian cottage was officially ours yesterday afternoon.

Fairy Tale-Part I

Once upon a time there was a lovely cottage...

overlooking lush gardens filled with flowers...

and roses...

and shaded places for birds to be refreshed.

Inside the cottage elegance was found throughout.

For you see these people had a dream...

for Victorian splendor to the highest degree!

Alas, an historic Victorian seemed out of reach...

but this did not stop them from creating...

a Victorian home filled with love.

They were blessed with a new home and continued their vision since owning an historic home was well beyond reach...

until one day when...

Birthday Blessings!

Today was filled with birthday blessings.

I received many lovely gifts and well wishes from family and friends:).

Hubby gifted me with this beautiful antique garnet brooch.

Along with the brooch was a tin type of the woman who originally wore it on her riding habit!
She is so elegant in her Victorian attire.
I feel blessed to now wear her beautiful brooch.

Needless to say it was a wonderful day filled with love:).

Butterflies, Birds, and Bookends

As we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, take time to enjoy the beauty that surrounds us.

May God Bless the families and friends of those who gave their lives to protect our country.

A bee takes time to enjoy the nectar of a daisy...

while a butterfly rests upon a golden bouquet.
A bird's nest snuggled amongst the branches of an oak tree,
a protective papa Cardinal keeps watch,
as the mama Cardinal feeds her young.

Red Cardinals...

Blue Jays,

and the white chest of the Red-Headed Woodpecker,

make for a patriotic bird display of nature:).

On this Memorial Day Lizzy and Calvin have found a comfy place to nap...

on opposite ends of the sofa...

creating bookends.

Time to shift to the other direction...

and the bookends are there once again!

Spring Performance!

The abundant beauty of spring is making an entrance!

Roses dance in vibrant splashes of fushia,
while Amarillas bloom forth in shades of crimson.

Colorful duet of daylillies.

Even the bees are buzzing a happy tune.

Ruffled daylillies...

and lacey hydrangeas are dressed for the garden stage.

Soft hues of lavender petals...

along with creamy-purple blooms...

make the garden a symphony of color.

Lantana blooms in miniature bouquets of beauty.

Fragrant rose petals scent the spring air.

Canna lillies make a striking pose.

And so the gardens sing forth in bold hues of color, dressed in their finest attire.

Queen Victoria Royal-Tea!

Although Queen Victoria's birthday is May 24th, we are celebrating today with a tea in her honor!

Since this is a 'royal-tea' event one must have fresh roses in abundance!
Born Alexandrina Victoria on May 24, 1819 she was bound for greatness.
This portrait, by S.P. Denning, shows Princess Victoria at the age of four.
She began her reign on June 20, 1837 at the young age of eighteen.
During her reign she did many great things for the poor, children, animals, family, and country.
Married to her true love, Prince Albert, on February 10, 1840 they lived a blessed life with nine children.
Sadly, on December 14, 1861, Prince Albert died leaving the Queen in mourning for the remainder of her life.
This did not prevent her from serving her people which she did with dignity and grace until her death on January 22, 1901.
In honor of such a great lady I chose the most royal looking of my tea pots.
This one looks like it has a crown.

This tea cup seems like a good match:).

Even the spout of the tea pot is bedecked with gold!

Perhaps you would like some cream with your tea?

Hand painted roses fit for a Queen:).

Even the gold trim of the cup seems regal.

OK, so this package arrives today from my auntie Jodie at

Since it was addressed to me and my mom I figured, what the heck...
I might as well open it!
I pulled out all of this stuff...

read the card...

and opened this really cool bag with the fleur-de-lis.

Inside was this really great toy with a note to me from my dear auntie Jodie!

So I picked it up,

and attempted to remove the toy mouse from the card.

Hmmm...this is a little trickier than I thought...

maybe if I grab the leg...

or tug on the card...

I know, I'll pull on the tail!

While I try to get my new toy off the card you can look at all of the neat stuff auntie Jodie sent my mom.

Can you believe all this great stuff?

Chocolate, a really great wine tag, a yummy fruit dip mix, and did I mention chocolate?

Mom squealed with delight when she saw all these treasures!

(she was so excited with all of her gifts that she didn't seem to mind the fact that I opened the package without her:).

Mom went immediately to the kitchen and put the wine tag on her wine bottle.

(You know my mom is a wino, I mean winer, well something like that).

My gift from auntie Jodie put a smile on my whiskered face!

After all, my auntie Jodie is the coolest, most artistic, bestest blogland auntie in the whole wide blogland!

Rays of Light

The sun rose this morning amongst blue skies and Spanish moss.

It seemed like a good day to photograph the beauty of the sun's rays.
Sunlight reflects against the dew drenched leaves of a Japanese Maple.

Amarillas petals are illuminted in the early morning sun.

Rose petals shine beneath the sun's glare.

The scent of Jasmine perfumes the air in the sun's light.

As the sun begins its descent shadows reach across the yard.

Sun rays reach out to touch the delicate Jasmine petals.

Light dapples the fountain...

and streaks through the tree branches.

Playful cherubs catch a ball of light.

Sunrays burst forth through a bouquet of roses.

Rays of sunlight highlight velvety rose petals.

Palm leaves stand tall against the sun's light.

A hazy glow shades a stem of roses.

Kramer Chronicles-Boredom

Ok, so I'm doing the cat thing watching the birds in the yard...

All of a sudden I got a better idea!

My mom has been posting way too many pictures of her roses lately.

It's time for my handsome face to be on the blogspot again-after all, I have fans out there!

First I need to make sure no one is around,

nope, no one back there either.

Let me get this camera turned on.

Oops-too close.

OK, maybe still a little close.

I'm getting better at this (what can I say-my paws aren't that long).

Ta-da! Got it!

Now I need to get the picture loaded on the computer but first I need to turn it on...

and then wait for everything to load.

Hmmm...this is taking way too long.

Finally, my handsome face on the blog!

In the Doghouse...

It has been a very busy couple of weeks for hubby and myself.

Hubby portrayed Snoopy in our local theater group rendition of the musical 'You're a Good Man Charlie Brown.'
In addition to his daily rehearsals I had performances too.
Here I am at Palm Key as Jane Austen.
The following day I portrayed Emma from Truer Words at Ebenzer Retreat in Rincon.

My mom, from http://sweetbriercottage.blogspot.com/, came for a visit and for hubby's musical performance.

Sunday we took a walk through town enjoying the beautiful sunny day.

Just beyond the ancient brick wall...

the beauty of our town lingers.

Wrought iron gates...

chairs with a view,

and rows of geraniums highlight the landscape.

Tabby walls illuminate a pot of geraniums.

Even the houses are happy:).

A chorus of flowers sing praises to the sunshine.

Lovely old houses, white picket fences, and roses...

does it get any better than this?

A bottle brush bush sways in the afternoon breeze.

It's time to head home as the sun descends for the evening.

With the rose bushes exploding in fragrant blooms...

it was time to bring some inside to enjoy.

Here are a few fun finds I found at the thrift store the other day.

This brown and white toile container will look great in the kitchen.

I found three of these red transferware plates by Johnson Brothers for .50 cents each.

This lovely rose covered plate was also .50 cents.

With the sun shining and the flowers blooming it's a great day to go downtown to a great little antiques store with a coffee bar.

This looks like a good place to park.

The old iron fence leads to the entrance gate.
Sun rays peek through the China rose bush out front.
This bush originated from a 150+ year old rose bush from the Sams Plantation.

The roses smell as beautiful as they look:).

Even this bee is enjoying the fragrant petals.

Bold blue skies illuminate the massive historic structure.

Palm trees abound in the surrounding yard.

Let's go inside.

Ruby red glass stands out against a backdrop of roses in the distance.

Vintage buttons and blue and white china beckon shoppers to linger...

while cobalt blue glass sparkles in the sun light.

Old linens compliment vintage china. Hmmm...I smell freshly brewed coffee. Care to join me for a cup?

Garden Stroll

Hello, are you ready for a stroll along the garden path?

It's a lovely spring day.
The sounds of water trickling in the fountain permeates the garden.

The bees are busy.

Gerber daisies add splashes of vibrant color.

Water puddles in this azalea bloom.

Their wavy petals add frills to the garden.

Nature's bouquet of springtime bliss.

Palm fronds in the distance create a backdrop for the speckled azalea blooms.

This lovely lady greets all who walk along the garden path.

Lavender scents the air.

A feeder welcomes hungry birds.

Hmmm...this feeder looks a bit empty. I wonder why as it was just filled.

I think I see the guilty culprit.

Look at him saying 'who me?' like it isn't obvious!

Delicate flowers add color to the garden shed window boxes

Thanks so much for strolling in the garden with me.

Springtime in the Lowcountry

It's springtime in the Lowcountry with soft breezes wafting over the marshes...

while the rays of an early morning sun shine forth...
as dew drips from the tips of newly formed leaves.

Velvety petals,

in abundance from an ancient rose bush.

Rose buds framed by the prickly leaves of a sega palm.

Glowing petals stretch toward the bluest of spring skies.

Cotton like flowers stand out against bold azalea bushes...

while birds prepare their nests.

Soft lavender petals...

speckled azalea flowers...

soak in the suns warming rays.

As springtime takes hold early bloomers make their appearence.

Got the Blues...

With the arrival of spring comes spring cleaning and a little redecorating.

For quite some time now I have collected the crown derby style dishes with their cobalt blue and rusty colors.
Most of my collection has come from thrift shops...

and generally show signs of wear with chips and cracks here and there.

These pieces by Wedgewood belonged to my great-grandmother.

Occasionally I find these blue and rust treasures at bargain prices in antique stores...

like this sugar bowl...

and creamer.

There is something about the deep blue and rust colors that seems so regal.Playful cherubs hold up this plate with cobalt trim and pink flowers.

A blue and gold plate sparkles against antique lace.

Of course, all of the china shines a bit brighter when garnished with a bit of lace.

Below the china cabinet are a collection of favorite books, antique writing lap desk, and vintage curtain tie-backs.

The Victorians had a way of making even the simplest object, like a writing lap desk, beautiful.

or perhaps a kitchen remodel!
This is the kitchen at Terra Cottage.

The oak cabinets are original although the ceiling treatment, light fixture, tile floor, and gingerbread trim on the cabinets have been added over the years.

This kitchen was featured in the March 2005 Romantic Homes magazine.

It's my dream kitchen.

I like everything about it:).

And so I decided it was time to redo the kitchen at Terra Cottage. Mind you I can't afford to remodel it but instead decided to make a few changes. First I needed an inspiration piece which is exactly what I found while antiquing in Atlanta over spring break.

The square platter was purchased at an antique mall and as soon as I saw it I had my inspiration.

I have long admired the beautiful brown and white transferware...

as well as the lovely shades of creams and sepia tones.

The vintage iron lantern was a steal at $5 and will be used as a candle chandelier with some crystal dangles added for a bit of sparkle.

The brown and white transferware was found at Scotland Yard Antiques mall and was all marked 50% off.

And so my vision for the kitchen began to materialize.

I am going to paint the cabinets the same creamy color as those in the magazine article.

The transferware will grace the open sections on top of the cabinets.

While visiting one of my favorite thrift shops recently I found these candle holders in shades of cream and brown.

I also found this transferware plate for .50 cents and the creamy square platter for $2.50.

So there it is-my dreams for my new kitchen decor.

I hope to start sanding my cabinets soon.

otherwise known as

AADD: Antiques Attention Deficit Disorder.

Affecting thousands of people around the globe this disorder is becoming more common.

People dealing with the disorder feel the need to frequently shop for antiques at the following locations which includes but is not limited to:

antiqes malls, thrift shops, yard sales, flea markets, and estate sales.

Initially the affected individual enters an antique store, or other antique filled venue, in search of antique treasures and is immediately overwhelmed by the array of antiques and collectibles rendering them inattentive and oblivious to anyone around them.

The antique overload leads to a moment of anxiety when one must decide between what is a 'want' or a 'need'.

A 'want' is something that one wants whereas a need is a necessity thus...

in order to alleviate the 'wantedness' one 'needs' to purchase the wanted item!

or in some cases multiple items.

As one of my dear friends always says, when shopping you should only carry as much as you can hold in your hands.

Of course, it is always wise to shop at those lovely antique stores where the kind employees frequently take your items to the front counter allowing you the freeedom to refill your hands as you continue shopping.

Are you still with me on this?

I have found the technique of 'Desensitization' is immensley helpful for this disorder.

Desensitization requires the affected individual to face their problem head-on, in other words,

continue shopping until the fear and anxiety is reduced...

oops, that's the technique for fear of shopping, I forgot, we're dealing with AADD.

(but this seems like a good approach all the same:).

According to the DSM (Diagnostic Shopping Manual),

other AADD symptoms include loosing all track of time when shopping,

experiencing feelings of elation when locating that amazing antique at a bargain price,

unusual sleep patterns which include rising at the crack of dawn in order to arrive first at yard sales, estate sales, or flea markets,

sudden urges to knock someone out of the way in order to get to that glorious treasure that completes your collection (even though you know in your heart that your collection will never be complete:).

One should seek immediate assistance when the disorder escalates to a wrestling match over the ultimate antique find (assistance from a good friend is usually the best answer unless of course you are wrestling with your good friend for the antique find).

Those dealing with AADD tend to feel overwhelmed by the abundance of antique treasures requiring multiple visits, usually within the week or in more serious cases in a day, in order to take it all in.

The most affective way to deal with AADD is to avoid the temptation to shop for antiques which generally means stay away from locations where antiques are sold.

Mind you, this could lead to other serious conditions such as...

a significant reduction in antiques sales thus leading to the closure of the antique store.

This in turn causes unemployment for the antiques dealer(s)...

which has a negative impact on the economy!

This can mean only one thing...

DON'T BE SELFISH! SHOP at your local antiques stores as often as you want and buy all of the wonderful things that you want/need!

Who cares about the Antiques Attention Deficit Disorder?

By continuing your shopping sprees you are supporting local businesses and business owners, helping the economy, and beautifying your home all at the same time! Everyone wins!

That doesn't sound so bad now, does it?

Terra Cottage-Hallway & Bathroom

Kramer welcomes you all to the hallway and bathroom tour:).

We replaced both hall lights with stained glass fixtures and then added antique frames as medallions.

This wall hosts family photos, artwork, and an antique architectural header.
We often use architectural pieces as art!

In this case architectural salvage is used to frame an antique clock giving it a grander presence at the end of the hallway.

Family photos welcome all who visit:).

The bathroom door has no lock so it's important to knock before entering:).

Stained glass is a great way to add art to bathroom walls as it holds up well to moisture.

Hubby did all of the moldings, beadboard, and tile work.

Antique bottles crown the medicine cabinet.

A scrollwork light fixture dazzles the antique oak mirror.

This magazine rack was purchased at an auction. I added the wood applique and painted it white.

Details make a room, right down to the glass doornobs.

Kramer Chronicles-Paper Play

This past weekend hubby and I did a little thrifting.

We found this beautiful antique Victorian table at a local consignment store.
Despite the damage we couldn't resist the bargain price tag of...

Anyone who has cats knows that there are mysterious hidden monsters...

found in paper...

that only cats can see:)!

It is the kitties' responsibility to not only locate said monsters...

but to destroy them as well!

Sometimes other things get destroyed in the process:).

Any object nearby can become part of the game.

Terra Cottage-The Garden Room

Welcome to the spare bedroom at Terra Cottage, otherwise known as 'The Garden Room.'

Visitors to Terra Cottage enjoy their stay in this room.
A vintage iron and brass bed bedecked with a floral patterned quilt and loads of pillows invites guests to curl up for a good night's sleep.

An antique door surround crowns the headboard.

Layers of pillows are always a good idea:).

As you can see this room overlooks the gardens out back thus the name of the room.

No Victorian room is complete without stained glass.

My dear friend, Jada, made the stained glass for me:).

This vintage lamp sits atop the night table.

The antique night-table has lovely wood inlays and metal dog head embellishments.

A flower arrangement and books about roses sit on the shelf.

Hydrangeas grace a vintage vase and bowl, part of a dresser set.

More of the dresser set provides much needed storage for small items.

Family photos and lace.

Once upon a time you could lock valuables in the dresser drawers.

Every room should have a chandelier and every chandelier should have a medallion.

The wardrobe is small-just right for a small room.

As I was in the room photographing things (the door was closed) I was startled by a strange noise and this little paw under the door.

Hmmm...I wonder who this could be?

I opened the door and much to my surprise it was Kramer!

Kitty-gram!

(Ok, if you get this then you are old enough to remember where it comes from. If you're not old enough to remember it's from the original SNL cast with the candy-gram skit:).

Kramer jumped up on the bed and shook his paw at me for leaving him out in the hallway.

Then he decided to roll around on the comfy bed:).

The package arrived today and of course Kramer helped me open it:).

while this gorgeous little treasure waited to be unwrapped.

The beauty of this package was not the wrapping but the graciousness and friendship behind a surprise treasured gift from Nancy.

She gifted me with this amazing vintage book of Bible verses-I nearly fell over when I opened it!

Each page is filled with God's Word and beautiful pictures.

Blog Tea Party fit for a Queen

I've been thinking with all of the brutally cold weather and snow this winter that it was time to think about something warm:).

What's the best thing to do when it's cold and snowy outside?

Have a tea party of course (or at least start planning one:)!

I have decided to host a blog tea party in honor of Queen Victoria's birthday on May 24th.

I realize this is a couple of months away but I thought it would be nice to plan something while we are all confined to the warmth of indoors.
I have been reading this book by Arthur Lawrence Merrill about Queen Victoria's life.
I have always been something of a fan of Queen Victoria and her reign
(I know-big surprise:).

I knew something of her wonderful contributions before but I have learned so much more reading this book.

Many people might not realize that Queen Victoria was mother to 9 children.

Of course with the recent release of the movie Young Victoria many people are aware of her romantic love story with her beloved husband, Prince Albert.

This portrait by Thomas Sully is one of the most famous of the Queen.

Queen Victoria was a woman passionate about her people, family, children, and animals.

She was something of an activist, you could say, for children, animals, and the poor.

This picture is a group of the Royal family at Balmoral, her Scotland home.

The more I learn about Queen Victoria the more I respect not only her but the amazing things she did for society.

She was a kind, intelligent, passionate woman with great faith and respect for all those in her service and the people of her dominion.

I will post more about this as the time draws closer and I will also post interesting facts about her life and reign.

I had admired it and the little sneak went back after we left the antiques store to buy it for me:).

With my new camera I am trying out all kinds of photo collage stuff.

Terra Cottage-Dining Room

Welcome to the dining room at Terra Cottage.

It's a small space, 10x10.

The table may look small but it actually opens to a full size table with the leaves stored within the table itself.

It's a great space saver:).

Details of the vignette atop the china cabinet.
Gingerbread peeks out from behind pink roses.
No Victorian home is complete without gingerbread:).
This particular piece of gingerbread divides the living and dining rooms.

Hubby designed and created this tile floor at the back door which stands up well to the dirt that we, and the dogs, traipse in from the gardens.

Instead of using a matching set of six chairs we have three pairs of chairs

(that kinda sounds like a Dr. Suess book-'they have three pairs of chairs at the table by the stairs':).

Each pair has it's own look.

A cherub graces each corner of the swag above the French doors. The cherubs were purchased at a local discount store for a few dollars. The swag is several yards of discontinued fabric at a big box store for $1 a yard. I sewed the gold fringe to each end, draped it across the doorway, and added tassels and the cherubs. For a few dollars and a little bit of time the overall look works well in a Victorian home.

Attention to detail is key in creating the look you want-right down to the door knob.

A pair of vintage sconces frames the buffet. These were a steal at $40 for the pair at a local antiques store. I added the globes and crystal dangles and voila-a functional set of Victorian style sconces to add a little romance to the dining room.

Kramer Chronicles-Mardi Gras

Kramer is something of a literary cat.

He has recently been honored by being included in the literary gato society, a very elite group of blogland literary kitties.

Here he is choosing from many of the books in our library

(he selected "Of Mice and Men").

But more about his literary pursuits later.

He wanted to celebrate Mardi Gras first!

Now I realize Mardi Gras was this past Tuesday but Kramer didn't have the proper attire.

He was very disappointed that he had missed it but I promised I would find him the proper attire to celebrate.

He was thrilled when I came home with a feathered mask!

He was very pleased with his handsome self all ready to celebrate Mardi Gras!

I'll have some catnip please!

Hmmm...maybe he had a bit too much catnip:).

Oh yeah, he's toasted.

Once the dogs saw how much fun Kramer was having, they wanted to join in on the fun.

Terra Cottage-The Parlor

Welcome to Terra Cottage!

I thank all of you for your very kind comments regarding our library decor.

Some people have mentioned wanting to see other rooms so I have decided to feature a different room each week.

This is the parlor.

Kasey decided she would model for this room.

(As you can see we need to have a sofa with detached cushions so the dogs have somewhere to curl up:).

Obviously the chair has a detached cushion too!

Each room is filled with things that we enjoy.

Most have been found at thrift shops or discount stores.

Pictures are one of my favorite things for decorating.

I love to create vignettes!

Winter Weekend Wonderland

My weekend began with hubby's quartet serenading me at work

(see Friday's post for more).

The day seemed normal enough until later that night when it began to snow!

This a major occurrance here on the coast.

It was amazing standing on the front porch snapping pictures of the snow falling while the sounds of children playing drifted through the night air.

For many of these children this was their first snow experience:).

Our back patio covered in snow.
By morning the snow blanketed everything in a layer of sparkling white.
This was Terra Cottage's first snow:).
Pale hues of pink illumintated the shimmering layers of white.
No sitting on the bench today!
The flag adds a burst of color to the backdrop of white.

Kasey, Calvin, and Lizzy enjoyed their first time playing in the snow:).

By lunchtime it was mostly melted with only the remnants of snowmen remaining around town.

Of course, there was no time to play in the snow as I had to prepare for tea with the wives of hubby's quartet members later in the day.

It was a small gathering with an Earl Gray and Vanilla tea blend being served.

Cranberry scones with strawberry preserves, cheese straws, and olives to nibble.

After tea we all met at a local restaurant for dinner.

Sunday was a time to rest.

Kramer was curled up (so was his tail:).

Kasey, Lizzy, Calvin, and Kramer were worn out from all of the weekend excitment.

While they rested I prepared a pot of Vanilla Rose tea and a small plate of chocolates and spent some time reflecting on the LOVE-liness of the Valentine's Day weekend:).

On another love note...

Hubby and his quartet came to sing to me at work today.

In addition to the lovely heartfelt songs he presented me with a rose and a box of chocolates-yummm!

But when I opened the box something looked odd...let's get a closer look.

Maybe a little closer...

that's not chocolate!

Yup, he surprised me by slipping this beautiful cabachon garnet ring into the box of chocolates!

(he's so sneaky:)!

I guess you never know what you'll find in a box of Valentine chocolates!

Superbowl Saints!!!

Welcome to our Superbowl party!
Here are our little Saints bedecked with black and gold beads:).

Hubby holding his bouquet of bear, a birthday gift from his mother, waiting for the game to begin.
The food is ready and served on silver trays (I didn't have any black and gold dishes so I used the silver trays-you know, the same as the big silver trophy the Saints were about to win:)!

Kasey watches the game with anticipation...

while Calvin proudly models his Saints team spirit.

Lizzy wasn't too thrilled about the beads (they interfere greatly when chasing squirrels).

Kramer was contemplating whether to wear the beads or play with them.

Then all of a sudden...what's that? The Saints scored a touchdown!!!

Calvin watches intently as the Saints score!

Lizzy is still troubled by the beads.

But she watches anyway!

Kasey is filled with excitment as the Saints run a 74 yard touchdown!!!

The winners are as we all predicted!

Lizzy says, 'Who Dat?'

The Saints of course!!!

For the love of books!

We love books!

Many years ago we turned our third bedroom into a library to accommodate this love affair with the written word.

Kramer also loves the library:).

I love books of all kinds...
especially anything written by Charles Dickens!

Books, books, books! What a wonderful thing!

I also love the time I spend in the library as I am surrounded by some of my favorite things like these yellow roses.

This stained glass window captures the sun's rays transforming them into sparkles of light.

Antique silver-another passion of mine-graces this group of old books:).

Although this is not a real fireplace the antique mantel adds warmth to the room.

Photos of my beloved horse sit beside an antique iron clock case, and yes, the other photo is me at my first horseshow at the age of eight.

(antique clocks-yet another amour of mine).

The clock case houses a carriage clock next a photo of hubby and me and a silver pitcher of flowers.

The Victorians had a love of art-obviously we do too!

You didn't think I had a room without a flying pig, did you?
