Dreaming...

of catnip...
dog treats...
or perhaps a kitchen remodel!
This is the kitchen at Terra Cottage.
The oak cabinets are original although the ceiling treatment, light fixture, tile floor, and gingerbread trim on the cabinets have been added over the years.
This kitchen was featured in the March 2005 Romantic Homes magazine.
It's my dream kitchen.
I like everything about it:).
And so I decided it was time to redo the kitchen at Terra Cottage. Mind you I can't afford to remodel it but instead decided to make a few changes. First I needed an inspiration piece which is exactly what I found while antiquing in Atlanta over spring break.
The square platter was purchased at an antique mall and as soon as I saw it I had my inspiration.
I have long admired the beautiful brown and white transferware...
as well as the lovely shades of creams and sepia tones.
The vintage iron lantern was a steal at $5 and will be used as a candle chandelier with some crystal dangles added for a bit of sparkle.
The brown and white transferware was found at Scotland Yard Antiques mall and was all marked 50% off.
And so my vision for the kitchen began to materialize.
I am going to paint the cabinets the same creamy color as those in the magazine article.
The transferware will grace the open sections on top of the cabinets.
While visiting one of my favorite thrift shops recently I found these candle holders in shades of cream and brown.
I also found this transferware plate for .50 cents and the creamy square platter for $2.50.
So there it is-my dreams for my new kitchen decor.
I hope to start sanding my cabinets soon.
Any decorating dreams in your life?

Oh, my heavens - the dream kitchen is spectacular - I would adore it too. I saw these pictures in some publication and I studied and dreamed over them too. Yes, do show us how to redo and get a similar look for lesser cost. I'll be returning to check it all out - I've been a follower for quite a while.

KIM DEAR! This is up my alley....dreaming! O.K., you are on your way. I love your dream kitchen! Is you husband (if you have one!) willing to allow you to paint those cabinets? And, get yourself an affordable chandelier! Look at every detail of your dream and go for it; it is possible to do on a budget. I wish you could see what we did with our cottage. You could go way back to when Ifirst started blogging to see, but our little kitchen was ugly. I found a vintage gold Italian chandelier and my husband built me my dream French style stove hood and away I went with the painting....what a change it has made. YOU CAN DO IT! And...thank you for your kind comments on my blog....SO NICE OF YOU! Bisous, Anita

What wonderful things you have found to use in your dream Kitchen. My kitchen has long been a thorn in my side , ever since we bought the house 32 years ago. It is a typical 1970's kitchen and very small. The cabinets were so dark that they looked black. Since I live in a townhouse with no windows in the kitchen, they were just too dark. I painted them white many years ago and they are now in need of another painting. I did buy a scalloped wall paper border with a red background with beautiful yellow roses. I hope to "redo" the kitchen when Joe and I are on vacation in June. Have fun creating your dream kitchen!!
HPS!!

Oh Kim,
What a fabulous post! I love your kitchen, but your dream kitchen is gorgeous, and just how I want mine too. We have the same cabinets as yours and when my sweet hubby is finished painting all the walls and our dark furniture he is going to paint the cabinets in our kitchen and laundry room a creamy white. I can hardly wait. Our kitchen is so dark and dreary! We also have dark green countertops. It is not feasible to replace them right now, but hopefully one day! I love all of the beautiful transferware, candles and other pretties you found. Perfect for your soon to be newly painted kitchen. It is amazing what paint can do! Loved all of your pretty photos! Thank you for sharing! I can hardly wait to see it finished!
Have a beautiful weekend!
Love, Paula

Good morning Kim!
So - Jodie informs me you are going to tell us all the Savannah "secret shopping places" when we arrive next week! YAY! We are going to have such fun. I can't wait to meet you - and Jodie too for that matter. I feel like I've known her forever but we have never met person to person, just on the phone, blogging and Email.
VERY FUN!
I love this post. Your dream kitchen is drop dead gorgeous, but by looking at the bones of yours, GIRL! you can come quite close to it! I look forward to following along as you wind your way through painting, accents and decor. And the transfer ware is fabulous!
Very nice to "meet" you! See you next week! YAY!

Kim-

Your Dream Kitchen is beautiful, and I can see where you're going with your new inspiration and plans for a facelift. The cream painted cabinets and brown transferware will be a stunning upgrade! I, too, love brown transferware, and have collected some of it.

I love the tour you've been giving of your house so far. What a nice idea! I like seeing the big picture. It's nice to see what people have to work with, what they've done, and where they want to go.
