Ode to a Dream

She haunted my dreams long before I knew her,
Black mane and tail gracing her dark brown fur,
Hooves galloping up a hill
With her whinny the air she did fill,
Nostrils flaring as the air her lungs took in,
Galloping, galloping, her heart pounding within,
Pure beauty and love her eyes did display,
Romping and frolicking in the pasture all day,
Always glad to see me with a welcome she would trot
To meet me where I stood in the very spot,
We would walk together side by side
The best of friends in which we took great pride,
For years we muddled through the good and the bad,
I knew the day would come when her parting would be sad,
Alas the day arrived on that cold January day,
When everything stopped and she went away,
My dreams she again fills galloping at play,
Now a heavenly realm she does occupy this day.

Happy Birthday BerBers.

What a beauty your horse was. I know just exactly what you mean about the friendship we share with our own horse. I had the most wonderful boy for many years, he sadly passed last year and a very good old age. There is something so very very special about horses. Hugs, Catherine xx

What a beautiful horse, and the poem is so touching. I had to sit here and wipe a tear from my eye. I myself have never owned a horse, but my daughter has ridden horses since she was young, 12 years now, and she is very attached to the horses at the riding school/stall. Her favorite is one called "Always" and they are kindred spirits those two! I just know that my daughter would know exactly how much you must miss your beloved horse and friend! My heart goes out to you.

Awe, what a beautiful poem. Beautiful and sad at the same time. I didn't know horses lived that long. What a sweet tribute to BerBers, that is such a pretty picture.

What a wonderful tribute to a dear friend. Horses have the power to fill a hole in us that few other animals have the ability to do. Is it because they are so intelligent? I'm not sure what it is, I'm just glad it is.

What a wonderful horse you had and such a special tribute to a dear pet.
I love the poem you have written.

Every day I think of our dear dog and cats that have passed on.
They are such a special part of our lives.

I don't think I could bear losing an animal, especially a horse. They are mesmerizing and beautiful and I am sorry to hear about the loss. Your poem is lovely and beauty is sometimes born from pain. Thanks for visiting me today! You are sweet. Have a lovely day! Anita

I couldn't imagine life without animals in it. That was a wonderful heartfelt poem, from what I'm sure, was a treasured friendship.

What a beautiful tribute to Barbie (Berbers)! I am most fortunate to have known her and her special love of life. I can still see her galloping down the hill, tail flying high, and whinnying when she saw us. A lot of great memories but also tears of missing her. She would have loved the poem, followed by a few carrots:)
